Southern Metropolis Seeks Tenants. Must Love a Variety of Amenities!

By Daniel Jessee

If variety is the spice of life, then renting some digs in Atlanta is cayenne pepper for newcomers. Like the array of people flooding into the city, rental properties in Atlanta are growing more diversified with the amenities they offer. From Olympic-sized swimming pools, community centers and kayak rentals to social programs, furniture and fully-outfitted kitchens and apartments, rental homes continually raise the bar. Once the move is over, you may never want the lease to end.

The first thing people notice before they move to Atlanta is the cost of rentals. “Rentals in Atlanta are still a great deal,” says Tom Wilkes, president of Post Apartment Management, who attributes the low prices to an over-supply since 2001 when rates were at a premium. “Compare that to Tampa or Charlotte where rents are back at the 2001 level and then some. That makes Atlanta very attractive for an apartment.” Average rental rates in Atlanta were about $764 per month in 2005 according to MSN Real Estate. Compare that to Orlando at $810 or Los Angeles at $1,421 and the first step to moving here is an easy one.
