Northern Suburbs   Minimize

Living on Atlanta’s northside gives you the best of both worlds—the comforts and expanse of the suburbs with the vibrant culture of the big city just a short drive away. Travel up Ga. 400 and you’ll encounter the cities and communities of North Fulton and Forsyth counties. This area is known for its high-performing schools, recreational opportunities along the Chattahoochee River, and swim and tennis neighborhoods.

Live
Atlanta’s northern suburbs feature recreational neighborhoods with resort-style amenities, posh townhome and condo communities, luxury homes and active adult options. Johns Creek, a new city in the metro area, is focusing on making the area family friendly. Newtown Park is the perfect place for children to become involved in community sports. The park also features two dog parks, a mile-long loop for runners and walkers, playgrounds, athletic fields and basketball and tennis courts.

Atlanta’s Northside is home to the following cities: Alpharetta, Cumming, Johns Creek, Milton, Roswell and Sandy Springs.

Work
Atlanta’s northside features three distinct business districts—the Perimeter, the Ga. 400 Corridor and Windward Parkway.

Top employers for the northside are: AT&T, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Northside Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, United Postal Service, Newell Rubbermaid and Verizon Wireless. One of the largest companies, Northside Hospital employs 6,000 people in the metro area.

Play
Most of the northside’s recreational opportunities lie along the Chattahoochee River. The Chattahoochee Recreational Area is a network of unpaved trails and park facilities in the river valley. You’ll find many residents hiking along the “Hooch,” canoeing and tubing down the river and a few brave souls wading in to enjoy the fly-fishing opportunities.

Also located along the river is the Chattahoochee Nature Center, a wildlife preserve and educational facility offering nature programming for children and adults.

Experience
Steeped in history and Southern charm, historic downtown Roswell offers an enjoyable mix of antique shops, sidewalk cafes and restaurants, art galleries and boutiques situated within refurbished buildings.

The northern suburbs host a full calendar of family festivals and seasonal celebrations. With summer here, the area is gearing up for the season with outdoor arts festivals and cultural events.
