Northern Suburbs   Minimize

Living on Atlanta’s northside gives you the best of both worlds—the comforts and expanse of the suburbs with the vibrant culture of the big city just a short drive away. Travel up GA-400 and you’ll encounter the cities and communities of North Fulton County and Forsyth County. This area is known for its high-performing schools, recreational opportunities along the Chattahoochee River and swim and tennis neighborhoods.

Live
Atlanta’s northern suburbs feature recreational neighborhoods with resort-style amenities, posh townhome and condo communities, luxury homes and active adult options. The Windward community is a master-planned development featuring residential neighborhoods, a commercial business center, an elementary school and a 195-acre private lake. As the development has matured, Windward has welcomed hotels, major retailers, locally owned boutiques and restaurants.
Atlanta’s northside is home to the following cities: Alpharetta, Cumming, Johns Creek, Milton, Roswell and Sandy Springs.

Work
Atlanta’s northside features three distinct business districts—the Perimeter, the GA-400 Corridor and Windward.
Top employers for the northside are: AT&T, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Northside Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, United Postal Service, Newell Rubbermaid and Verizon Wireless.
Northside Hospital employs 6,000 people in the metro area.

To Market, To Market
This spring, head to downtown Alpharetta for monthly outdoor artist and farmers markets. Shop for locally grown produce and one-of-a-kind treasures from area artisans.

Play
Most of the northside’s recreational opportunities lie along the Chattahoochee River. The Chattahoochee Recreational Area is a network of unpaved trails and park facilities in the river valley. You’ll find many residents hiking along the “Hooch,” canoeing and tubing down the river and a few brave souls wading in to enjoy the fly-fishing opportunities.
Also along the river is the Chattahoochee Nature Center, a wildlife preserve and educational facility offering children and adult nature programming. The center hosts various nature events including the Flying Colors Butterfly Festival.

Experience
Steeped in history and Southern charm, historic downtown Roswell offers an enjoyable mix of antique shops, sidewalk cafes and restaurants, art galleries and boutiques situated within refurbished buildings. Every third Thursday from April through October, the downtown square celebrates Alive After Five, with special sales events from the various merchants and restaurateurs.
The 2008 inaugural season of the Verizon Amphitheatre at Encore Park in Alpharetta welcomed such acts as the Eagles, Stevie Nicks, Rod Stewart and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. This new outdoor venue is the summer home of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and features 12,000 seats, upscale concessions and an exclusive VIP area.
