Atlanta’s southside
communities—Clayton, Coweta, Henry and Fayette counties—feature
sprawling state parks and nature preserves, ample recreational opportunities
and quick access to international destinations via Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta
International Airport. The area also attracts big business through the Shenandoah
Industrial and Business Park and the Atlanta Tradeport.
Live
The southside offers a diverse sampling of neighborhoods. The spectrum of choices
ranges from the antebellum-style homes of historic Newnan to the country club
communities of Stockbridge.
Each of the southside neighborhoods and cities offers a mix of architectural
styles and access to good schools. Southside cities include: College Park, Eagles
Landing, Fairburn, Fayetteville, Hampton, Jonesboro, McDonough, Newnan, Peachtree
City and Stockbridge.
Work
A great quality of life and access to transportation hubs are just two of the
many reasons businesses choose the southside for their regional headquarters
and distribution centers. Coweta County is a key distribution center for Rite
Aid, K-Mart and PetSmart. Other major employers in the area are the Federal
Aviation Administration, Georgia Crown, GENCO/Kimberly Clark and Snapper Power
Equipment.
Play
With six golf courses in Fayette County, you’re likely to find more than
one reason to improve your handicap. If you’d rather trade your golf clubs
for hiking boots, there are plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors
at Panola State Park and Reynolds Nature Preserve and International Park.
Spend the day with family and friends at Clayton County’s International
Park, where the 1996 Olympic Beach Volleyball competition was held. Picnic areas,
walking and fitness trails, fishing, an indoor arcade and more will keep you
busy all day long! Not to mention The Beach, which has a six-acre swimming lake
with waterslides, a children’s pool, a putt-putt course and other aquatic
delights.
Experience
The southside has its share of must-see attractions, but the Atlanta Motor Speedway
in Hampton tops the list. Wanna go fast? The Richard Petty Driving Experience
gives you the chance to drive or ride shotgun in a stock car on the speedway’s
track at speeds of up to 165 mph. If you’d rather watch from the stands,
the Atlanta Motor Speedway hosts several NASCAR events—the Kobalt Tools
500, the American Commercial Lines 200 and the Georgia Power Qualifying rounds
for the NASCAR Sprint Series.
