DRIVING

Three major interstates meet in Atlanta: I-75, I-85 and I-20. The I-285 Perimeter circles Atlanta and links all three along its 62-mile radius. Being in a major city means traffic can sometimes become an issue. The Georgia Navigator is a service of the Georgia Department of Transportation, and provides information on road speeds, traffic congestion and construction. A series of cameras and speed detectors along Atlanta’s highways feed data into this multi-media Web site, allowing Atlantans to actually see what the traffic is going to be like before they even start up their cars.

FLYING

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the city’s major gateway to the skies, though private air fields and county airports do exist (see listings below).
atlanta-airport.com

Location: Off I-85, 10 miles south of the city.

Parking
A variety of parking is available, and is predominantly divided by proximity to the north or south side of the main terminal building. Signs on the entry road direct travelers to parking based on proximity to their airline and to different lots. Lot closures can be checked on the airport’s Web site.
Rates:
Park-Ride: $2/hr; $9/day
Economy: $2/hr; $10/day
Daily: $2/hr.; $14/day
Hourly parking:
0-2 hrs $1
3-6 hrs $28
$28 minimum at the beginning of each 24 hour period.

Transit Access
The Ground Transportation Center (GTC) is located near baggage claim at the end of the terminal farthest from the access to gates. It is for shuttles—MARTA access for trains is located nearby.

Wait Times
You can find out about wait times at the security checkpoints, and whether your flight is on time by visiting the airport’s Web site. Trak-A-Line and Trak-A-Flight services give up-to-date, real-time information on possible airport delays.
