Georgia Now Home to 17 Fortune 500 Companies, Thanks to Asbury Automotive
The number of Fortune 500 companies headquartered in Georgia has risen to 17 with the addition of Duluth-based auto dealer Asbury Automotive Group, Inc. Asbury (NYSE:ABG), whose profit jumped 33 percent to $109.1 million in 2013, has given the state one more company than it had last year. Asbury Automotive owns dealerships across the nation, including more than a dozen in the metro Atlanta area under the Nalley brand. The company recently disclosed its plans to open two new used vehicle stores. In 2014, Home Depot ranked the highest among the Georgia companies, coming in at No. 33. UPS, the well-known packaging delivery service, also climbed the list, jumping to No. 50. Three Georgia-based companies stand on the verge of breaking the top 500, including Axiall and AGL Resources. Axiall, an Atlanta-based chemical company, surged 140 spots to become No. 524.
