If you are looking for a neighborhood with low crime, great schools and a high level of livability, you may want to consider Decatur.
That's according to Niche.com, which assessed 100 Georgia suburbs based on factors such as cost of living, job opportunities, public schools, crime and local amenities.
What makes Decatur so great? The Georgia suburb scored a high A+ in both public schools and family environment, and an A in both diversity and nightlife. Decatur’s median home value of $350,400 is also significantly higher than the national median home value of $176,700.
Big Creek came in at a close second when it comes to best suburbs, followed by Alpharetta, Johns Creek, and Northeast Cobb. While crime was an important factor in determining rank, bigger factors that these top suburbs had in common were great education options and prospering real estate.
In addition to ranking third in another Niche list of 2016 Best Suburbs to Raise a Family in Atlanta Metro, Decatur also ranked high on the list for 2016 Best Suburbs for Millennials in Atlanta Metro. According to the ranking, millennials who live in Decatur have abundant access to bars, coffee shops and restaurants, and 12.8% of the residents is in the age group 25-34 years old.
Big Creek, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, and Northeast Cobb also placed high on the list for the metro Atlanta area.
