Community Spotlight: Harbor Club on Lake Oconee Charming Greensboro community offers award-winning golfing and easy lake access
By all accounts, 2016 was a spectacular year for Harbor Club on Lake Oconee in Greensboro, which is located approximately 75 miles east of Atlanta. In addition to celebrating its 25th anniversary, the family-owned, 1,000-acre community collected national accolades for its golf course as well as its marina and restaurant, The Boathouse. Harbor Club also added sweeping new amenities to its community, and through its relationship with Southern Living has been named a “Southern Living Inspired Community.”
Southern Living Inspired Communities are a collection of neighborhoods in the Southeast marked by charm, taste and Southern spirit. Harbor Club’s Southern Living residential offerings include the new Cottage Series, brimming with Craftsman charm on the outside and open floor plans, master suites on the main floor and dream-worthy kitchens and baths on the inside. Tucked in the intimate Club Cottage neighborhood and framed by Harbor Club’s 18th hole and the driving range, Cottage Series homes are sized from 2,100-3,500 square feet in size and are priced in the much sought-after price range of the mid-$300,000s to low $400,000s.
“The new Cottage Series homes at Harbor Club meet a long-awaited demand in a gated, amenitized community here at the lake,” says Kathy Phillips, the Harbor Club Real Estate’s director of sales. “Every week we have many prospective homeowners visit us who are looking for a house in this exact style, size and price point, and now they’ll be able to handpick their ideal homesite and home plan.”
The Cottage Series homes each have an inviting Craftsman warmth expressed through stone and brick accents, shed dormers and covered front porches and screened back porches. All three plans share a common convenient feature of predominately one-level living. Each home has a master bedroom and one or two secondary bedrooms on the main in a split-bedroom plan. A variety of second-level options can include a loft bedroom and baths.
Other common features of the Cottage Series include an open concept floor plan with a generous kitchen island overlooking the living space, large great room with a fireplace, a formal dining room and separate breakfast area. The master suites are large enough to accommodate sitting areas and feature tray ceilings, oversized walk-in closets and baths with separate tubs and showers or larger walk-in showers. All of the plans include a screened-in porch, and each home comes with a two-car garage and no-maintenance landscaping services.
The Designer Series, Harbor Club’s larger homes, are priced from the high $400,000s to the mid-$500,000s. Sited on larger homesites throughout the community, many front directly on the golf course and boast exciting outdoor living opportunities.
The Signature Series, priced from the $600,000s, sells as quickly as the homes are completed. Harbor Club offers a seamless approach to custom construction through its in-house construction company, Patriot Builders. Once a floorplan has been chosen, homeowners are able to customize their home by making selections in Harbor Club’s recently opened Design Studio.
The 2016 accolades for the Harbor Club Golf Course were plentiful and well deserved. The community’s engaging lakefront golf course ascended to third among the “Best Courses You Can Play in Georgia,” according to the national rankings panel at Golfweek magazine. The golf course also garnered a spot on Golfweek’s “Best Residential Courses in America,” and special recognition in the Premier Properties Guide of LINKS magazine.
Additional accolades came to Harbor Club’s sparkling new marina, The Boathouse, which earned national honors for “Best Recreational Facility” at the National Association of Homebuilders Aurora Awards competition.
The Boathouse is a welcoming, multi-use marina featuring an old-time general store, rustic restaurant with barn-board siding, a tin ceiling and a rocking chair front porch. A banquet room and outdoor dining deck provide great entertaining space, too. There are also watercraft rental and fueling docks, boat launch, grand lawn, bocce ball, putting green and a 72-space, dry-dock boat storage facility, which can grow with demand. The dry boat storage and water concierge services instantly turns every residence at Harbor Club into a lake-access property.
New amenities at Harbor Club include The Grove, a 12-acre recreational and special event campus that features a new, state-of-the-art fitness center, a mile-long hiking trail with fitness stations, expanded wedding and reception facilities, and a nature overlook called Sanctuary Pond. There is also a sports field and measured quarter-mile track, a Victory Garden for community use, and two fabulous dog parks for both large and small dogs.
The centerpiece of The Grove is The Stables, one of the lake area’s most popular wedding and special event venues. Harbor Club has recently enhanced the facility with the addition of a beautiful outdoor wedding chapel built from cedar trees brought from the Virginia Mountains.
Harbor Club General Manager Brandon Matney says, “The Grove provides Harbor Club residents and members with a vibrant new amenity campus and a perfect complement to our award-winning golf course, marina, clubhouse and swim and tennis center.”
With more and more families gravitating to Harbor Club, an inviting addition to the area is Lake Oconee Academy — a charter school located only 2 miles from the community’s front entrance. Offering excellence in education, the National Blue Ribbon Charter School was voted “2014 Best 50 Public Elementary Schools in the U.S.”
Another nearby family facility is the St Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, a 25-bed acute care critical access hospital that offers comprehensive health care and 24-7 emergency medical. St. Mary’s won the “Georgia Small Hospital of the Year” award in 2014.
