As long-time vacationers settle in to spend their golden years in the quiet mountains, a new 55-and-older active adult community, The Summit, is taking shape in Ellijay to accommodate the county’s expanding retirement market.

A close-knit educational community, the Gilmer County School District strives to make smaller class sizes and small town support work to students’ best advantage. Its students’ average test scores approach or exceed state and national averages across the board.
