Newton County   Minimize

The historic feel of city streets, and the comfortable glow of county neighborhoods and storefronts have made Newton a favorite film spot for countless Hollywood blockbusters including TV show “In the Heat of the Night” and such movies as “My Cousin Vinny”, “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Remember the Titans.” Newton captures both a sense of nostalgia and the vibes of a progressive city with new lofts downtown in the Square and two recently constructed developments, Clark’s Grove and East Haven, providing new opportunities for expansion.  The industrial base here strongly revolves around manufacturing with a large number of citizens employed at such giants as C.R Bard, Inc. and General Mills.

Fox Vineyards &Winery is located here, as are the Oxford Historical Cemetery and Bear Creek Regional Reservoir. Sightseeing options abound along the picture-perfect town square and among the several historic monuments. Locals and travelers alike find Newton a welcoming place to be. Golf, biking, swimming, camping and fishing are all popular pastimes.

An act of the Georgia Assembly in 1821 named Newton a certified county in honor of Sgt. John Newton, a revolutionary War Hero. The railroad was one of the area’s first conduits of prosperity, bringing industry along the rails in the mid-1840s and helping the county seat of Covington become the thriving regional business and agricultural center it is today. That tradition of connectivity continues today—with its own airport, interstate and rail access, it’s no wonder that Newton has such a powerful reputation for business.
