Design Centers in Atlanta

When moving to a new city, decor is sometimes considered last — to parents there are school districts to consider, while for the corporate relocators finding a livable space with a couple homey necessities close to the new office gets top billing. For others, having a home in perfect order and designed to your liking can make all the difference when meeting a new city. Not many have a lot of wiggle room when relocating to Atlanta, but when you do, recruiting the help of skilled professionals at one of the city’s finest design centers can offer expertise and, what’s more, your new, perfectly tailored home.

From upscale furniture and home decor specialists such as Room & Board and Havertys to design centers of the city’s top home builders and developers, the metro area has no shortage of resources for those looking to customize every aspect of their home. “Room & Board starts with the notion that it is a privilege to help our customers create homes that they love,” says Sandra Pawliger, design associate with Room & Board. “With a passion for design and first-hand knowledge of our products, our design associates share expertise, ideas and inspiration while guiding our customers through product selection to create a personal expression tailored to their lifestyle.”

COMFORT IN DESIGN
A place for everything and everything in its place can help ease the transition to a new city, and the convenience of customizable collections in dining, bedroom and living furniture may help pull together a new home. “I appreciate what Le Corbusier said, ‘The home should be the treasure chest of living,'” Pawliger says. “Building a meaningful collection of things from our past and present is the best approach to creating a sense of comfort and belonging.”

“It’s important for your home to reflect your tastes and your style, so we suggest creating a CustomLook piece to make it all about you,” advises Maya Frank, creative director at Havertys. “Whenever you have the chance to choose your own upholstery or even the legs and arms on a chair, go for it! There’s nothing like a gorgeous bed or an accent chair that’s a one-of-a-kind design just for you.”

When it comes to adding personality to a new space, Frank says accessories are the easiest thing to add that show off your evolving interests and style. “Say, for example, you live in an apartment where you aren’t allowed to paint or make major changes — surrounding yourself with things that make you smile will make you feel right at home,” she recommends. “Try choosing a piece of wall art that reminds you of a favorite vacation or happy memory or select a tabletop accessory that reflects a hobby or special interest.”

TOP TRENDS
“Sustainability,” Pawliger inputs. “In the past few years, this has become a buzzword that means different things to different people. Using natural materials, focusing on the art of handcrafted, American-made furniture and shopping locally seems to be catching on in our industry. It is exciting to think about the impact this will have on both design and our environment.” A trend that will hopefully become a more permanent staple in the home decor industry, finding sustainable pieces that will last a lifetime show quality with immeasurable value in a new home. “Customers are seeking true value, which we believe starts with timeless design that is handcrafted with care to be handed down for generations,” Pawlinger adds.

For Frank, mixing metals into accessories and industrial-chic, four-poster beds are very popular, as well as farmhouse or rustic tables with an eclectic blend of modern chairs. Beyond furniture, open floor plans are now mainstream; this layout has been seen increasingly in condo living and single-family homes this year to encourage greater togetherness, adding lots of windows for plenty of natural light to help a space feel even bigger. Realtor Magazine also predicts an influx of freestanding tubs, quartzite (yes, even over granite) and porcelain, imitation-wood floors. Quartzite is a virtually indestructible natural stone that closely resembles the luxe classic marble, but it doesn’t stain easily while porcelain floors are less expensive and wear as well, if not better, than that real thing.

Most design appointments take place at one of three workstations in the main area that each include a large table where samples can be laid out, along with a flat screen for easy viewing of floor plans and design option images. The first floor also includes a bar and outdoor patio that contribute to the relaxing atmosphere of the space, as well as the design team’s sample library and two design labs, which are used for private work sessions and feature flat screens and samples.
Special Tools or Programs: The Edward Andrews Homes Design Center pairs cutting-edge technology with up to 20 hours of consultation from professional design experts, with the goal of providing buyers with a reimagined custom building experience. A key element of this experience is the ExAct Design Dashboard, a personal online interface that connects the buyers and their design team. The Dashboard houses a Style Quiz and Lifestyle Questionnaire, both of which must be taken prior to a buyer’s first visit to the Design Center. The responses to these activities are communicated to our designers, so they are familiar with the buyer’s design preferences and lifestyle needs before any design appointments take place.
What Can You Offer Relocators?: We know some relocators may need a home more quickly than is possible with a custom build, so ready-now homes available that have been expertly designed by professionals are available. This option enables relocators to achieve the quality and design sophistication that accompanies a custom build but on their own timeline. As an added incentive to partner with Edward Andrews, they will pay closing costs of $5,000+ when a buyer who is relocating uses one of their preferred lenders.
