Neighborhood: Seven Hills
Young families, empty-nesters and active adults are right at home

Living in Dallas’ Seven Hills community has become a family affair for Gwen Cousin and her middle son Herbert Cousin.

“Herbert lives three houses down from me and since I’ve moved to Seven Hills I get to see my grandbabies every day,” says Gwen, who moved to the Woodbury neighborhood in May 2017 from Douglasville. “Herbert used to always ride through Seven Hills, look at the homes and walk through the models when he had his paper delivery route and also worked at a bank. He’d say, ‘I’m going to live here one day,’ and that’s just what he did.”

Seven Hills in Dallas offers home options for families and active adults.

In addition to being so close to her grandchildren, she says she loves her home. “The kitchen is my favorite because it has a big island and six barstools, but I also love having a deck off my master bedroom so that I can spend time outside.” She said she also likes the Woodbury neighborhood because it’s smaller. “With only 28 homes, it’s easy to meet the neighbors and there are lots of kids here.”

Sue and Joe Pollow first moved to Seven Hills community in 2008, when Joe was transferred to Atlanta for his job in motorsports. Recently the couple downsized, purchasing a new home in Seven Hills’ Double Branches community, going from a 5-bedroom, 4-bath home to a 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath home. “We love the open floorplan and the wooded lot,” Sue says. “And we’re right on the edge of the active-55 neighborhood, so it’s very peaceful here. Plus, we have green space with trees to the left of our lot and behind us, so it feels like we have a large piece of property.”

Although their children are grown and living in other states, the quality of local schools factored into their choosing a home in Seven Hills in 2008. “We knew that at some point, we’d consider resale, and schools are very important to families with children,” she says. Seven Hills is served by Paulding County Public Schools. “And this time we chose a home with the master suite on the main floor, so this will become our retirement home until we decide to move closer to our grandchildren.”

The diverse amenities at Seven Hills drew Jason and Devon Thomas to the community almost 10 years ago. Both teachers, they purchased a 5-bedroom, 3-bath home in Ivy Hall. “The community was close to Devon’s work and it’s an up-and-coming area, with stores nearby and easy access to Cobb Parkway, with shopping and restaurants,” he says. “And now that we have two young children, it’s the perfect place to raise a family.”

Jason says that the family uses the pool and playground, plus the walking and biking trails. The community plans an active calendar of events for all ages. “We love the story time in the summer, plus there’s a fall festival, concerts and movies at the amphitheater, Santa and sleigh rides at the clubhouse and so much more. They keep us well informed with a regular newsletter and email updates, too.”

Seven Hills has a 13-acre park, a water park with a junior Olympic pool, infinity pools and a super saucer slide, 10 lighted tennis courts, a large children’s playground, a well-appointed community clubhouse and a full-time activities director.

Seven Hills is also a family affair for the Thomases. Devon’s mother lives in the active adult section and her sister’s family with two young children also lives in Seven Hills. “It just seems popular to have in-laws, moms and dads and other relatives all living here,” he says. “It is a great place to stay active and to raise a family.”
