Location, Location, Location!
Where Millennials Are Looking to Lease in Atlanta

While Atlanta is where many Millennials want to be, the personality of the neighborhood or community where they decide to call home is just as — if not more — important, especially when considering proximity to restaurants, shopping and nightlife. Location, combined with overall affordability for a generation that is mindful of keeping early career expenses at a minimum, is driving young people to many Atlanta neighborhoods, including to some well-known places, as well as other unexpected, up-and-coming areas.

According to a recent study by NerdWallet, a San Francisco-based financial planning website, Atlanta is the No. 9 best city for recent college graduates in 2016. The website noted Atlanta’s low cost of living as a top factor in its analysis of the 100 largest U.S. cities.

“Here [Atlanta], the median annual earnings for a resident 25 or older with a bachelor’s degree are $50,420, and rent runs at 22.9 percent of the median income, one of the lowest percentages in the top 10,” NerdWallet said in a press release. “In terms of jobs, recent grads may find opportunities at Atlanta’s 18 Fortune 500 headquarters, such as Home Depot, UPS, The Coca-Cola Company and Delta Air Lines. In 2015, Atlanta was home to the third-highest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in a city.”

Cities nationwide are seeing rent increases, but according to a recent study by RentCafe, renters in Atlanta can get 1,172 square feet for $1,500. For the same price, that’s twice the apartment you might get in Los Angeles and close to three times the size of a similarly priced rental in Boston. With that in mind, Atlanta is an attractive option — especially amongst Millennials looking to get more bang for their buck.

KNOWAtlanta spoke with a few Millennial renters about why they love their apartment community and how the location fits their lifestyles.

“3131 is a great community. We love our updated, spacious apartment, as well as the feel of the 3131 Apartments community in general. We looked at a number of different complexes and 3131 had everything we wanted, from spacious bedrooms and a big kitchen, with lots of cabinet space and granite countertops, to awesome community amenities (pool, grill, car care center). We love the staff, too! They’re all very friendly and responsive to recommendations, questions and any minor service needs we have had.”

“The decision to sign a lease at 3131 Apartments was easy. I felt at home the moment I walked into the front office and was greeted by the most welcoming staff after a long day of apartment hunting. It’s been two and a half years since that day and I couldn’t be happier living here. The office and maintenance staff are very professional and personable; they have even helped me change my flat tire when I was late for work. My maintenance requests are always completed in a timely manner, the community events are great ways to meet neighbors and the grounds are always
well kept. I have and will continue to recommend 3131 Apartments to anyone looking for a wonderful place to live.”
