Atlanta named top moving destination in U.S. for eighth year in a row Penske tracked one-way truck rentals and says most are still moving to Georgia's capitol
Plenty of people are packing up an heading south, per Penske Truck Rental. For the eighth year in a row, Atlanta has topped the moving company’s Top Moving Destinations of 2017 List.
The Big Peach has kept all other U.S. cities out of the running since Penske started announcing annual numbers eight years ago. As the ninth-largest metropolitan statistical area in the country, the Atlanta region grew by 1.6 percent from 2015 to 2016, according to U.S. Census.
Atlanta boasts a 62.7 degree average temperature, median home values less than $185,000 and median monthly rent less than $1,600, all of which are likely helping to contribute to such high numbers of folks flocking to the area. (An did you know you can get from Atlanta to Alabama on the Silver Comet Trail? Penske provides some interesting non-moving-truck transportation suggestions as an Atlanta “fun fact.”)
To create the list each year, Penske tracks one-way truck reservations for every major American city. Sun Belt cities, as most might expect, dominate the list.
