Traveling to other cities can be a hassle and a strain on your wallet. But as many Atlantans know, there's plenty to do in the city to have a vacation in right in your backyard. Bonus: a "staycation" doesn't require a plane ticket or long car ride.
WalletHub recently ranked Atlanta as the No. 7 best city in the U.S. for a staycation. While the ATL may not be the epicenter of the Disney experience like top-spot earning Orlando, there's still plenty of fun and entertainment to be found.
To determine the list, the credit reporting website considered a variety of factors to establish three main categories: recreation, food and entertainment, and rest and relaxation. In the recreation category, researchers examined recreational offerings, like public golf courses per capita and parks per capita; for food and entertainment, they considered nightlife options and diversity of restaurants, among others; and finally, for rest and relaxation, they counted spas and wellness centers per capita and "idealness of summer weather," according to the site. The report then ranked the largest 150 cities in the country.
Atlanta ranked amongst the top 10 in recreation, No. 9 in food and entertainment, and took No. 15 in the rest and relaxation category. From Piedmont Park to Centennial Olympic Park, there are numerous parks around Atlanta for staycationers to enjoy.
